In 1977, Dr. Antje and Wolf-Ingo Kappel took over the dental practice at Betckestraße 24, which had already been run since the 1940s by Dr. Hans and Rosemarie Isskraut. Wolf-Ingo Kappel had spent many years as a research associate in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Periodontology at the Free University of Berlin, had for some time trained and specialized further in the field of implantology, and had long served as a court-appointed expert witness for the Berlin Chamber of Dentists. Dr. Antje Kappel worked as a research associate in the same department and, as Rosemarie Isskraut's successor, dedicated herself to orthodontics — treating misaligned teeth in children and adults using the newest techniques and materials to be as comfortable and invisible as possible.
Since 2000, the second generation has also been active in the family practice: Dr. Nils Kappel joined his parents' practice in 2000, earned his doctorate at Charité in 2003, and completed the international "Master of Science" degree in 2005 — giving him formal academic and state-certified qualification in aesthetic and restorative dentistry. His younger brother, Dr. Ingmar Kappel, specialized in oral surgery and implantology and holds the title of Master of Science in Oral Surgery and Implantology, reflecting particular expertise and hands-on experience in this field. He also serves as the practice's laser safety officer. "Dentistry has been moving in new directions for years. Where every dentist used to be a generalist, today it's a given that we each specialize in a particular field," say Drs. Nils and Ingmar Kappel. Together with our dental assistants and prevention specialists, a total of 30 staff care for our patients.
The innovative laser for low-pain treatments has long been part of daily practice. Beyond that, the greatest emphasis today is on preserving natural tooth structure. Thanks to innovative, high-tech filling materials, only the diseased, decayed part of a tooth needs to be removed. Healthy tooth substance is preserved and the defect is sealed invisibly. The days of large amalgam fillings are long gone. Even large bridges are now metal-free, made from high-performance ceramics. Large individual tooth defects can even be scanned digitally, reducing the wait for a new ceramic filling to around 90 minutes — no uncomfortable impressions, no weeks of temporary restorations.
Alongside the most modern treatment methods, the Kappel team places particular emphasis on individual patient care: "We take a great deal of time for our patients, take individual wishes and anxieties into account, and provide comprehensive advice on the options for dental prosthetics, the associated costs, and alternative treatment options — with the goal of finding the best solution for every patient."
In this, Kappel & Partner is exclusively supported by master dental technician Axel Vogel and his team, who run the practice's in-house lab and can therefore respond especially flexibly to patients' specific wishes. Close communication between dentist and dental technician is a key to success, particularly for demanding prosthetic reconstructions with the highest aesthetic standards. For some time now, there has also been increased demand for cosmetic dentistry — for example, professional tooth whitening (bleaching) or all-ceramic veneers (ultra-thin ceramic shells). Naturally, individual consultations are held on this topic as well, showing patients the treatment options and the results they can expect.
The Kappel & Partner practice has eight treatment rooms equipped with the latest dental technology, and a state-of-the-art in-house practice lab that allows for the fabrication and processing of high-performance ceramics.
