CEREC – High-Tech Restorations in a Single Session
This minimally invasive method allows a defect-oriented restoration of a tooth with a tooth-colored ceramic restoration in a single session (CEramic REConstruction). While a full-jaw impression used to be necessary, today the tooth is simply scanned. A computer-aided process calculates the missing part of the tooth using a key-and-lock principle, which is then milled by a grinding machine — in just one session and without a temporary. This especially tooth-conserving method can, in some cases, avoid the need for a crown and so preserve healthy remaining tooth structure. The ceramic restoration offers advantages not only aesthetically but also biologically, since the ceramic used is very close to natural tooth substance (high "biocompatibility").
