Straight teeth look good, but above all they are healthy: they are easier to clean, carry load more evenly and protect the jaw joint and gums. At our practice in Berlin-Spandau, Ellen Kappel, MSc, our orthodontic specialist, treats children, teenagers and adults.

Our treatments

Children and teenagers

We use jaw growth to gently guide misalignments, with removable plates, functional appliances or fixed braces. More under children's orthodontics.

Adults

You are never too old for a correction. Discreet options range from lingual brackets to clear aligners. More under adult orthodontics.

Invisalign

Almost invisible trays that you take out to eat and brush. Ellen Kappel is a certified Invisalign provider. More under Invisalign.

Before prosthetics and implants

It often pays to move teeth into the right position before a crown, bridge or implant. We coordinate this in-house with our dentists and our master laboratory.

Treatment steps

  1. 1

    First consultation

We look at your teeth, bite and jaw and discuss your wishes.

  2. 2

    Diagnostics

X-rays, photos and a digital 3D scan of your teeth show the starting point precisely, without impression material.

  3. 3

    Treatment plan

We show you which brace or aligner system suits your misalignment, how long treatment is likely to take and what it costs.

  4. 4

    Treatment

At regular check-ups we monitor progress and adjust the appliance.

  5. 5

    Stabilisation

A retainer keeps your teeth in their new position.

When should a child see an orthodontist?

A first visit is recommended at around age 6 to 8, when the first permanent teeth come through. Some misalignments can then be corrected with little effort while the jaw is still growing.

What does health insurance cover?

For children and teenagers up to 18, statutory health insurance covers treatment if the misalignment reaches a certain severity. We determine this at the examination using the orthodontic indication groups (KIG). For adults, statutory insurance pays only in exceptional cases, such as severe jaw misalignments that also require surgery. Extras such as invisible aligners or particularly discreet brackets are charged privately. We explain the costs in advance in a treatment plan.

We look forward to a consultation at our practice on Betckestraße in Berlin-Spandau.
